  1. Maryland State Archives Home Page: The Maryland State Archives is the historical agency for Maryland and serves as the central depository for government records of permanent value. Records date from the founding of the colony in 1634 to the 1990s. Included in the Archives' holdings are colonial and state executive, legislative, and judicial records; county probate, land and court records; church records; business records; publications and reports of state, county and municipal governments; and special collections of private papers, maps, photographs, and newspapers. The Archives' search room is open to the public five days a week. There, professional archivists are on duty to assist researchers.

  14. Governor's Office of Minority Affairs - mission is to assist minority firms in Maryland who are seeking contract and procurement opportunities with the State.
  15. Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) - the agency that certifies the bona fides of a MBE vendor. As a certified MBE, you are eligible to compete for MBE designated state work (subcontracting opportunities). MBE certification also provides greater exposure throughout state government and to some extent private industry as a result of having your company listed in the MDOT MBE Directory.

Contract Weekly On-Line - There are four ways that Maryland agencies may notify vendors of pending procurements: (1) Maryland Contract Weekly; (2) agency bid boards; (3) agency bidders lists; and (4) newspapers and business, legal, and trade publications. Although Maryland agencies may advertise procurement opportunities in local newspapers and various trade publications, Maryland law requires all State contracts above $25,000 to be advertised in the Maryland Contract Weekly.

  5. Library of Congress World Wide Web Home Page with information pertaining to new materials and exhibits at the Library as well as searchable on-line databases.
  6. FedWorld is a United States Government sponsored clearinghouse of federal information and includes many links to related information.
  7. The U.S. House Of Representatives World Wide Web service provides public access to legislative information as well as information about Members, Committees, and Organizations of the House and to other U.S. government information resources.

  1. Adopt US Kids: an initiatire of the Children's Bureau that was developed and is being operated by the National Adoption Center (NAC). Adopt US Kids brings waiting children "online" through photographs and biographies. A wealth of information is also available to help you learn more about adoption.

The Child Welfare League of America is the nation's oldest and largest organization devoted entirely to the well-being of America's vulnerable children and their families. Founded in 1920, CWLA is a membership association of almost 1,000 public and private nonprofit agencies, which together serve over two million children and their families across the United States annually. CWLA and its member agencies provide a wide range of services to protect abused, neglected, and otherwise vulnerable children and youths, and strengthen and support families for children.
  3. The Council of State Government Web site answers the questions most frequently asked of them and explains their mission, basic strategies and goals for the coming year.
  4. Development Credit Fund, Inc. (DCF) DCF cultivates a list of small businesses which have historically had underutilized potential. DCF is not only a lender but also a source for technical assistance and the guidance necessary to help small businesses do good business.

Maryland Small Business Development Financing Authority (MSBDFA) - The Maryland Small Business Development Financing Authority (MSBDFA) was created by the Maryland General Assembly in 1978 to assist in the development of socially or economically disadvantaged entrepreneurs in the creation of Maryland businesses. MSBDFA’s financing activity is supported through the repayment of loans, generation of interest income and the collection of fees.

  1. American Public Human Services Association(APHSA)
    The APWA is a nonprofit bipartisan organization of individuals and agencies concerned with human services. It educates members of Congress, the media, and the broader public on what is happening in the states concerning welfare, child welfare, health care reform, and other issues involving families and the elderly.
  2. National Governor's Association(NGA)
    The NGA shares the best ideas of the states via electronic means. It also provides information on state innovations and practices as well as assistance in solving state-focused problems.
  3. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services(HHS)
    This Federal Government Department is responsible for the publication of the regulations and monitoring of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act(PRWORA) of 1996 which authorized the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families(TANF) block grant. This is the funding mechanism for Maryland's Welfare reform initiative, the Family Investment Program(FIP).
